About the Telluride Area
The Telluride region is the perfect blend of pure mountain splendor, historic charm, world class skiing, championship golf, and unsurpassed beauty. Its charm draws visitors from around the world. Originally designated “The Valley of Hanging Waterfalls” by Native Americans, the region was first valued for its mineral riches. Today, it is a year-round recreational paradise that offers stunning views, while preserving its Old West history.
Getting to Telluride is easy with non-stop flights from 8 U.S. cities and, once you’re here, Telluride’s free gondola is the main source of transportation – no traffic or long lift lines, and no driving once you’ve arrived. Two towns make up this mountain paradise located in the southwestern San Juan mountains in San Miguel county. The communities of Telluride and Mountain Village are linked together by the free gondola. Our unrivaled scenery and terrain, world-class hotels, lodging, shopping and spas, the ease of direct flights ranks us the best Colorado ski resort. The Town of Telluride
Designated a National Historic Landmark District in 1964 because of its role in the history of the American west, Telluride is a unique and charming small town. The town is nestled into the middle of a box canyon with one road in and out. It is surrounded by 13,000 foot peaks on three sides. The town is composed of boutique shops, gourmet restaurants, colorful Victorian homes, clapboard storefronts, art galleries, and many historic buildings. Just eight blocks wide and twelve blocks long, visitors can leave the car at home as the town is very easy to explore on foot or by bicycle. Town park, located on the east end of town, plays host to a variety of festivals throughout the summer. In the winter, access the ski area with ease as the town is the base for lifts 7 and 8 and the gondola.
